We had our READ-A-THON kick off assembly today, and CCS students are ready to READ, READ, READ!! We laughed, as the book, The Napping House, was acted out/read by our very own Joanna Stevenson and Kathy Hornbacher! This year’s READ-A-THON, is a “brand new” fundraiser for our school, and we hope you will get as excited about it as CCS faculty and staff are! 😊 READ-A-THON packets will be coming home today, with 5 forms to be filled out, with addresses of friends and family members, and then brought back to school. If you are able and willing to put stamps on your forms, we would greatly appreciate it! If you are unable to, we will put stamps on the forms and mail them out for you. If a student brings back all 5 forms, they will earn a READ-A-THON t-shirt.
The form packets will also include an information page about “99 Pledges”, the ONLINE portion of the READ-A-THON this year. For more information you can contact the Fundraising CO-Coordinators, Kathy and Joanna at fundraising@canyonsidechristian.school.
CCS Book Wagon
As part of the READ-A-THON we are asking CCS families to bring in new and/or gently used books for the BOOK WAGON! Students will be able to purchase books for $0.25 or they can “trade a book for a book”. The BOOK WAGON will visit each classroom daily during each day of the READ-A-THON!
Health and Wellness Policy
We thank each CCS family for signing and returning the “Parent Safeguard Agreement” this past week. As a reminder, if your student has a persistent dry cough, headache, sore throat, fever, nausea/vomiting, they will not be allowed at school until those symptoms are no longer present. NO student will be allowed back at school within 24 hours of having a fever and/or vomiting. We would also recommend to keep all CCS siblings home if one of your CCS student becomes ill. Please call the school office by 8:20 a.m. if your student will not be attending school on a particular day.
Remind App
CCS uses the “Remind App” to communicate with CCS families concerning important news and reminders we want you to know about. We also use “Remind” to alert you on school closures due to inclement weather. ALL new CCS families will be sent a “Remind” invite via your cellphone. You must accept the invite to be enrolled in the “Remind” System at CCS! If you enrolled in the “Remind” system last year, you are currently still enrolled for this school year. For more questions, please call the school office at 208-324-3444.
Measures of Academic Progress
We will begin our Measures of Academic Progress (MAP©) testing this week, for students in the 1st – 4th Grades. This is a nationwide test that assesses students in Reading, Writing and Language. We will test the students in the Fall, Winter and Spring to pinpoint areas of strength and areas we need to focus on. The teachers will use the data to help with their lesson planning and small group instruction. The Fall test will be a baseline score to show student growth over through the school year. We encourage students to “test their best” by getting a good night sleep and eating a healthy breakfast. When the MAP testing session is completely over, I will send home a student progress report, with an explanation of how to read our students test results. The testing schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, September 8th: 1st , 3rd & 4th Grade Reading
Thursday, September 10th: 2nd Grade Reading, 3rd & 4th Grade Language
Monday, September 14th: 2nd ,3rd & 4th Grade Math
Tuesday, September 15th: 1st Grade Math
Friday, September 18th: Make ups
