We had our JOG-A-THON kick off assembly this week, and the kids are pumped! We cheered, danced and even had a visit from the Jerome High School Cheerleaders! This is such a fun event and an important fundraiser for our school. JOG-A-THON packets went home on Monday, with 15 forms to be filled out, with addresses of friends and family members, and then brought back to school. If you are able and willing to put stamps on your forms, we would greatly appreciate it! If you are unable to, we will put stamps on the forms and mail them out for you. If a student brings back all 15 forms, they will earn a JOG-A-THON t-shirt and their name will go into a drawing to win a prize! For each additional 5 forms students bring back to school, their name goes into the drawing again for the chance to win a prize. Every Tuesday, from September 17th until October 1st, Mrs. Kathy will be in charge of prize patrol. She will go to each classroom to collect forms and pass out prizes. The kids love it! We are also in need of donations for the JOG-A-THON prizes and event supplies. Donations that are needed include; bikes, scooters, recreational gift certificates (Jump Time, Putters Golf, etc.) and balloons…. And of course any donated time to help with the set-up of this event! For more information you can contact the Fundraising Coordinator, Liz Artho, at email@example.com.
Box Tops and smile.amazon.com
CCS wants your Box Tops! As we begin a new school year, we also begin a new goal for Box Tops! Box Tops are going digital. This means you now have the opportunity to download the “Box Top” app on your phone or computer and can begin scanning your receipts for Box Top points! CCS will also continue to take the “cut out” Box Tops from food items that you purchase OR Liz Artho will scan your receipts and give credit to the student if their name is on the receipt that is turned in.
Another great way to contribute/donate to CCS is using smile.amazon.com! If you are an Amazon shopper, you can log onto smile.amazon.com and select Canyonside Christian School as your choice of charity, and a percentage of your sale will go directly to CCS!
Measures of Academic Progress
We started our Measures of Academic Progress (MAP©) testing this week. This is a nationwide test that assesses students in Reading, Writing and Language. We will test the students in the Fall, Winter and Spring to pinpoint areas of strength and areas we need to focus on. The teachers will use the data to help with their lesson planning and small group instruction. The Fall test will be a baseline score to show student growth over the year. We encourage students to “test their best” by getting a good night sleep and eating a healthy breakfast. When the MAP testing session is completely over, I will send home a student progress report, with an explanation of how to read our students test results. The testing schedule is as follows
