January 13th – 17th , 2020 Newsletter

We had a fantastic Chapel this morning lead by Mrs. Irene’s 1st Grade class and Ms. Austyn Stevenson, who filled in for Mrs. Hinojos as “PRINCIPAL OF THE DAY!  The Chapel theme for this month is “The Helmet of Salvation” in the Armor of God series.  Mrs. Irene’s class shared the story of “salvation” with wordless books!  Each page of the book was a specific color that represented what Christ has done for us by dying on the cross and taking our sins away.  1st Grade also taught us a new song from Romans 1:16 – “I’m not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.”

                        Teddy Bear Week

This week is Teddy Bear Week for all preschool students!  Teachers have planned a very special “bear themed” week full of fun surprises and “bear” activities!  Preschool students are encouraged to bring in their favorite teddy bear from home to join them at school!  The week will conclude with a “Teddy Bear Picnic” on Thursday in the Multipurpose Room.

There will be a PTF planning meeting this Thursday, January 16th, at 2:00 p.m.   PTF will be planning for upcoming events such as Valentine Grams, Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham lunch, Book Fair, Grandparent’s Day and Teacher Appreciation!  Come join in the fun and make a difference at CCS!

We will be selling “Winter Cookies” for $1.00

The Roaring 20’s is the theme for this year’s CCS annual action!  The auction will be held on Friday, March 6th, at the Jerome County Fair Grounds. The auction committee will be meeting again on Thursday, January 23rd, at 5:30 p.m. in the Library.  There is a sign- up sheet in the main foyer for “Basket donation ideas”, if you would like to sign up and start putting together a one-of-a-kind basket for this year’s event!

MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) TESTING

We will begin our winter MAP testing on Wednesday, January 22nd.  Testing during this quarter will be for Kindergarten through 5th Grade students.  The data that is collected from these assessments gives teachers and administration specific information on instruction and the individualized academic needs of each student.  A detailed testing schedule will be given in next week’s newsletter.

CCS Illness Policy

Unfortunately, it is that time of year again when most of us are not feeling well.  ☹ This is a friendly reminder of our illness policy: for the welfare of your child and others in the school, all children who are sick must be kept at home. Your child is considered sick and should not be brought to school when he/she has: a temperature, a runny nose that is not clear, runny or pink eyes, a contagious infection, or he/she has been vomiting in the last 12 hours. All children are required to go to recess unless there is a medical reason and a note from the child’s doctor.
